A Day in the Life of a Robin!
I love going to school! Since I'm 4, I'm much less shy now, and I typically run ahead of my mom or dad, racing to get through the parking lot and throw open the door to my school. All the while, my parents are yelling, "Watch for cars!" They don't know that I'm really looking the whole time.
I run down the stairs to be greeted by Mrs. Shipley. She's always sitting in the same chair, and asks how I'm doing and asks questions about my outfit or what I've brought. I really enjoy talking to her. Then I take my backpack and coat to my cubby, and wash my hands to prepare for class.
Because I'm 4, I now know that I go into our meeting room for floor activities. If my parent is co-oping, I sometimes even get to choose what we do. I usually know how to play, but if I don't, there is always someone to help me learn.
Once all of the kids arrive, we sit down for our meeting. We get to learn what our job is for the day, like feeding the birds, or helping set up the snack. We're all really excited to see our name on the job board. We also learn what we are going to do for the day from Mrs. Shipley.
Once our meeting is over, we're free to go from room to room, choosing the activities that we want to do. Some of the cool things I like are to paint, cook up our snack, build a block home for Chip, our guinea pig, or even take apart a TV to see what it looks like on the inside. Some days I want to run and jump off of the jumping board, or roll and wrestle on the mats. Other days I just want to play quietly with the cars or with the dollhouse. It doesn't matter how I'm feeling each day, because Mrs. Shipley lets me do what makes me happy.
After we've had our free play and cleaned up our messes, we join together again for Circle Time. We all get to read (look at) a book until we've all settled down a bit, then Mrs. Shipley will tell us a really cool story or teach us something we didn't know before. We also count our numbers to see how many days we've been at school, and we get to show each other our Show N' Tell if our parent is there. Now we are doing the Guessing Jar, to help us with our numbers. Once in a while, we even get to have Mrs. Carter come in and teach us songs and dances.
After our Circle Time, we're off to wash our hands again and have a snack. We each have our own placemat, so we find our name and sit down. We have to wait to eat until the prayer is said. I always hurry through my snack, because once I'm finished, I get to go outside! I get my coat on and my boots if it's wet or snowy, and run out to swing, play in the sand, or climb on the climber. Once all the kids are out, we are usually running after each other or riding our big wheels down the hill.
Then my mom or dad come and pick me up way too early. But I know that on special days (I think my mom said once a week), I get to have lunch at school. And before I go, I always get five minutes to climb on the climbing tree.
I hope you love Meridian Hills Co-op as much as I do!
